On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM, the Bosomtwe District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) collaborated with the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service had a special edition of "Time with NCCE" on Evergreen Radio 87.7 FM. The session focused on raising awareness about domestic violence.
Inspector Kofi Karikari, the resource person for the program, provided valuable insights into the role and functions of DOVVSU. He discussed the unit’s vision, constitutional mandate, and the transition from the Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU) to DOVVSU, which led to the establishment of the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732). Inspector Karikari elaborated on various forms of domestic violence, including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, referencing relevant laws such as the Ghana Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732), and Section 14, Clause A-H of the Criminal Code Act, 1960 (Act 29). Through various scenarios, Inspector Karikari clarified the legal distinctions between rape and defilement.
