REPORT ON THE DISBURSEMENT OF THE DISABILITY COMMOND FUND

On the 31st January, 2023 the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development in conjunction with the Disability Fund Management Committee distributed various items to members of the disability fraternity in the District. The programme was organized at the forecourt of the district assembly.

The Disability Fund Management Committee met on the 19th of December, 2022 to vet and approve applications received from Persons with Disability in the district. The Office had earlier received six hundred (600) applications from the Hearing impaired, Physically Challenged, Visually Impaired, Speech impaired, Intellectually Challenged, Educational Support and Medical Support. Upon vetting the various applications, the committee finally approved twenty (20) applicants which were made up of seven (7) Males and thirteen (13) Females using the Disability Fund Disbursement Guidelines. Mrs Mary Turkson was the MC of the programme and introduced the dignitaries present. The Head of Department for Social Welfare and Community Development the organizers, the District Chief Executive, the District Coordinating Director, Heads of Departments, Honourables Assembly Members and the selected Disabilities.

The chairman for the programme in the person of the District Chief Executive, Hon Joseph Assuming emphasized the importance of the occasion to the District Assembly in general and government as a whole. The DCE noted that the Disability Fund Management Committee will embark on a monitoring exercise to ensure that items received by beneficiaries are well managed and profitably utilized. He continued that, the lives of PWDs are very important that is why the government has increased disability fund quota from 2% to 3%. He stressed that the PWDs should to inculcate the habit of book keeping in ensuring business growth. Items was disbursed after all speeches.

Items distributed were deep freezers, rice, sugar, vegetable oil, washing powder, soap, knitting machine, goats, and laptops.
