On Thursday, 23rd January, 2020 a ceremony was held to inaugurate 52 re-constituted members of the Bosomtwe District Assembly, out of which 35 were elected and the rest appointed.
A colorful event organized at the forecourt of the assembly, saw to the swearing-in of the newly elected assembly members resulting from the 2019, December 17 district level election to enable them commence constitutional activities for their respective communities.
The ceremony was graced by the Omanhene of the Kuntanase traditional area Nana Amankwaa Aduna II, who was the chairperson for the event, the Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation and M.P for Tafo-Pankrono constituency, Hon. Anthony Osei Akoto, the District Chief Executive for Bosomtwe District, Hon. Joseph . K. Asuming, the District Coordinating Director, Madam Agatha Ahia, the District Magistrate ,Mr.Francis Asakeya Ana-am, the District Police Commander, the District Fire Officer, Head of Methodist Church Ghana Kuntanase Assembly, the press and some senior staff of the Bosomtwe assembly.
In a speech delivered by the District Chief Executive, he congratulated the elected assembly members for their victory and urged them to work effectively for their respective communities since they are accountable to their people. He further entreated them not to engage in chieftancy issues, work in unity and team with the assembly to resolve issues of teenage pregnancy, improper disposal of waste, unapproved construction, improper layout etc. which is a challenge to the assembly. He again asked them to help the assembly in revenue collection by educating their respective communities on the importance of it.
The assembly was inaugurated by Hon. Anthony Osei Akoto the Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation who represented the President of The republic Of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. In his inaugural speech stated, “this occasion is another milestone towards decentralization of the participation in governance”.
He stressed that government will continue providing resources for the improvement in the well-being of Ghanaians and the implementation of laudable interventions such as free SHS, One District One Factory, Planting for Food and Jobs, Planting for Exports and Rural Developments, One Village One Dam among many others. He then added that the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has taken initiative to enhance the development of the Agricultural sector.
Ending his speech he urged the newly elected assembly members to work hand in hand with the district assembly so as to ensure massive development in the district.
Nana Amankwaa Aduna II who chaired the inaugural event in his closing remarks, thanked the President of the Republic of Ghana for initiatives brought up by his government for which the Kuntanase communities and the Bosomtwe district as a whole has also benefited. He also touched on some of the problems facing the district to the President’s representative to be addressed to the President.
At the election of the Presiding Member for the Bosomtwe District held at the District Assembly’s conference hall, a contest held between Hon. Michael Yaw Acheampong who is the assembly member for Esreso East constituency and Hon. Matthew Owusu an appointee to the assembly saw Hon. Michael Yaw Acheampong emerging victorious.
He was elected the Presiding Member of the district pulling a 100% total vote in a second round of election confirming him as the Presiding Member in an election conducted and presided over by Mrs. Ernestina Owusu Banahene, the Bosomtwe district electoral commissioner.
The Presiding Member in his speech, thanked the Hon. District Chief Executive and his colleague assembly members for the immense support giving to him before and during the elections. He further promised to work hand in hand with other honorable members of the district to ensure the rapid development of the Bosomtwe district.
His speech followed after he was sworn-in as the Presiding Member of the Bosomtwe District Assembly.
