RECLAMATION OF GALAMSEY SITE AT KONKOMA

On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, the District Chief Executive of the Bosomtwe District Assembly, Hon. Engr. Abdullah Hamidu, along with officers from the District Works Department and law enforcement agents, launched an initiative to stop illegal mining activities in Konkoma, a farming community within the Bosomtwe District.

For several months, nearby lands around a school and a clinic had been severely damaged, posing significant dangers to local residents. This situation was deemed unacceptable and required immediate restoration efforts.

In a media address to local residents, Hon. Engr. Abdullah Hamidu outlined the reclamation efforts aimed at restoring the site to its original condition. Key actions taken included:

- Investigating and arresting individuals involved in illegal mining.

- Summoning traditional leaders and Assembly members to discuss the adverse effects of illegal mining.

- Implementing immediate reclamation efforts to rehabilitate the affected site.

- Calling on all citizens and residents to remain vigilant and report any illegal activities to the Assembly.

- Advocating for a commitment to environmental protection, prioritizing the safety and well-being of the community, and preserving its natural resources.
