OFFICIAL LAUNCHING OF 2021 PUPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS IN THE BOSOMTWE DISTRICT ASSEMBLY

Bosomtwe District Assembly on Friday 28th may, 2021, launched its population census at the conference hall in the Bosomtwe District Assembly. This called in lots of dignitaries in the Constituency to grace the occasion after the president of the republic of Ghana launched it in the Greater Accra Region.

The Chairman, Hon. Joseph Kwasi Asuming, the District Chief Executive said Ghana has been fairly consistent in conducting census in every ten years since 1960 to count and understand its population size, structure and dynamics. He then revealed that the creation of District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies are based on census data so he urged the people in the Constituency to be available during the population and housing census and finally declared that the District Assembly will aid them in other to address the various data gaps needed for the effective planning of sectorial programs at the District level.

The census officer explained Population Census as the counting of people living within a country to help find out the number of people the country have so Ghana Statistical Service will conduct a population and housing census in July/June 2021 and because of this, series of preparatory activities including demarcation of the country into several enumeration areas and trial census activities have been conducted. He said that the census night is the night of 27thJune, 2021 and all persons in Ghana on the census night will be enumerated from 28th June, 2021 in reference to where they spend the census night. He added that for about two weeks following the census night, census officials will visit all places of residence in the country to interview the heads of the households or responsible persons in all households and group quarters and when there is no one found at the residence to be interviewed, a call – back card with the contact details of the census official will be left behind to enable the residents schedule a new date and time to complete the interview. He finally stated that the date for the awaiting activities training falls on Monday, 31st May, 2021.

The District Coordinator, Madam Agartha Ahia added that the census provides updated statistical data to support national development activities including planning, budgeting and effective policy. She ended that, the census information will also be useful for better economic growth and development outcomes so it’s necessary for everyone in the Bosomtwe Constituency to get counted.
